Use the same reporting period and rooms-sold policy for both inputs.
Connect the concepts behind the shorthand. Explore twelve distinctions for hotel, restaurant, event, and people teams.
ADR measures room revenue per sold room night. OCC measures the sold share of available rooms. RevPAR measures room revenue per available room night. On the same basis, RevPAR = ADR × occupancy expressed as a decimal.
RevPAR uses room revenue. TRevPAR uses total hotel revenue. GOPPAR uses gross operating profit. Strong room revenue does not by itself establish strong total revenue or profitability.
These indexes compare occupancy, ADR, and RevPAR respectively with a comparison group. An index of 100 means parity with that group. Confirm the same period, comparison set, and data basis.
A PMS handles property operations. A CRS manages central reservations and distribution. An RMS supports revenue decisions. Products can overlap; confirm which system owns each piece of data.
Both restrict room use, but they may affect available inventory and occupancy calculations differently. Check your PMS configuration and benchmark reporting rules before treating either status as an automatic denominator adjustment.
Travel teams use FIT for an independent traveler. Payroll uses FIT for federal income tax. Spell out the meaning when sharing information between departments.
AP may mean American plan or accounts payable. MAP may mean modified American plan or modified atmosphere packaging. Meal plans, finance reports, and food-safety documents use different meanings.
An owner may mean a property improvement plan. HR may mean a performance improvement plan. These documents serve different purposes and should always be identified clearly.
An RFP requests a proposal. A BEO documents event service requirements. A run of show coordinates the timed execution. Keep approved versions aligned with the actual event contract.
TCS describes a food-safety control need. RTE describes readiness for eating. HACCP is a hazard-control approach. A food can be both TCS and RTE; the labels answer different questions.
Front of house covers guest-facing service; back of house covers production and support. The handoff between them affects order accuracy, timing, and the guest experience.
SPLH divides sales by labor hours. RevPASH divides restaurant revenue by available seat hours. One relates sales to staffing; the other relates revenue to seating capacity and time.
A curated U.S. hospitality reference spanning hotels, restaurants, events, reservations, revenue, food safety, property operations, and the workforce. Counts represent distinct meanings, including selected room codes, form names, credentials, and service shorthand. International terms are included where U.S. hospitality teams encounter them.
Search an acronym, full term, or keyword. Use Exact acronym only for short terms, or choose a subject and usage context. Punctuation and capitalization are normalized in exact search: P.O.S. finds POS. Use the star to save a term, then export or print your saved view. The passage decoder matches capitalization by default.
Check the department, report title, surrounding sentence, and source document. FIT, AP, MAP, MPI, ARI, AI, PIP, and EAP have more than one meaning. Company-specific terminology can differ. For KPIs, match the period, revenue scope, available-room inventory, cost basis, and denominator before comparing results.
Edition: September 17, 2026. Definitions and examples are original editorial explanations. Each entry links to a terminology reference or relevant topic resource; broader topic links may not spell out the exact shorthand. This curated database is not an official or exhaustive registry. Historical names and internationally used terms are labeled where relevant. It explains terminology; current laws, adopted food codes, property policies, payment standards, and system documentation determine applicable requirements.
Search, passage decoding, and metric calculations run inside this widget without sending your input to an external service. The widget does not save pasted passages or metric inputs. Starred terms stay in this browser when storage is available. Use the stars to remove them. CSV exports and printouts include every result matching your active filters, including other pages. The hosting website's own privacy practices still apply.
