Oregon Bonus Pay Tax Calculator

2026 Oregon bonus withholding

Oregon Bonus Pay Tax Calculator

Estimate a 2026 Oregon employee bonus with the state's optional 8% separate-payment method or regular withholding formula, federal supplemental-wage rules, Statewide Transit Tax, Paid Leave Oregon, local payroll settings, employer costs, and net-to-gross planning.

Bonus inputs

Use gross-to-net for a planned taxable cash bonus or net-to-gross when a take-home amount was promised. This estimator separates employee deductions from employer-only payroll costs and does not replace a complete payroll run.

Enter the taxable bonus to be paid.
Federal 22% eligibility and Oregon 8% eligibility are different. Oregon's optional 8% method requires a different payment time; a separately stated bonus on the regular payday still uses Oregon's regular formula.
The optional 22% federal flat method generally depends on regular wages having had income tax withheld in the current or prior year. For aggregate estimates, checked models the comparison-period regular-pay withholding from the entered W-4 settings; unchecked subtracts $0 as regular-pay withholding.
Used only for the 2026 $184,500 Social Security wage-base check.
Used for the employer's $200,000 Additional Medicare withholding threshold.
Include supplemental wages paid in 2026 by this employer and businesses under common control for the $1 million federal test.
Used for aggregate withholding comparisons.

An Oregon income-tax exemption does not automatically remove Statewide Transit Tax or Paid Leave Oregon contributions.
Use 100% for fully Oregon-taxable wages. Nonresidents should enter the Oregon-service allocation supported by payroll records.
Auto uses 8% only for a payment made at a different time from the regular payday. Otherwise it isolates the bonus from Oregon's 2026 payroll formula.
Used by the regular-formula difference method. Enter Oregon-taxable regular wages for the current or applicable comparison period.
The 2026 formula changes the standard-deduction path for a single employee with three or more allowances and removes allowances above specified income levels.
The employee tax remains 0.1% after Measure 120 failed on May 19, 2026. It has no wage cap.
Bonuses are Paid Leave subject wages unless a specific exclusion or approved equivalent-plan treatment applies.
Opt in only for employees subject to the Eugene tax through a physical Eugene employer location.
The 0.44% rate applies to all subject pay-period wages once the period threshold is met. This tool calculates the incremental effect of the bonus.
Enter a payroll-calculated or employee-elected amount. This tool does not infer Portland-area annual liability or opt-in/opt-out elections from the bonus alone.
Employer cost estimate settings
The 2026 new-employer base rate is 2.4%; experienced-employer rates run from 0.9% to 5.4%. Enter the assigned total rate, which already includes the special payroll-tax offset.
Percent of subject wages. Employer size counts employees inside and outside Oregon; only Oregon-localized wages are used for contributions.
TriMet and Lane payroll taxes are employer-paid and follow where services are performed.
The ordinary employer rate is 0.21%. Qualifying employers with two or fewer employees can have special 0.15% treatment on the first $100,000 of wages; enter the payroll-determined effective rate.
Default assumes the full 5.4% state credit. Final 2026 credit-reduction status is determined after November 10.

Use the optional 8% method only when a bonus is paid at a different time, or isolate the bonus with Oregon's 2026 payroll formula and OR-W-4 inputs.

Employee payroll deductions

Calculate the 0.1% Statewide Transit Tax, the normal 0.6% employee Paid Leave share, FICA caps, opt-in Eugene tax, and a manual Portland-area withholding amount.

Employer costs kept separate

Oregon bonus withholding FAQ

Does Oregon have a flat bonus tax rate?

Oregon permits an optional 8% withholding method for supplemental wages paid at a different time from the regular payday. It is not a special final tax rate, and it is not available merely because a bonus is separately identified on the regular payday.

What happens when the bonus is paid on the regular payday?

The calculator uses Oregon's 2026 regular payroll formula on the combined Oregon wages and subtracts the formula result on regular wages alone. OR-W-4 status, allowances, federal income-tax withholding, and pay frequency can change the result.

Why is Statewide Transit Tax shown when Oregon income tax is exempt?

The 0.1% employee Statewide Transit Tax has its own wage rules and can apply even when Oregon income-tax withholding is zero because of allowances, low wages, or an exemption.

Are bonuses subject to Paid Leave Oregon?

Yes, bonuses are listed as Paid Leave subject wages. In 2026 the total contribution is 1% through $184,500 per employee: employees normally pay 0.6%, and employers with 25 or more employees on average pay 0.4%.

Does the Eugene payroll tax apply statewide?

No. The employee module is off by default and is only for subject employees of a business with a physical Eugene location. The 0.44% rate applies to all subject pay-period wages after the applicable Jan.-Jun. or Jul.-Dec. threshold is met.

How are Metro SHS and Multnomah PFA handled?

Those local personal-income-tax withholdings depend on employer location, high-income payroll thresholds, employee elections, and annual tax facts. Enter the amount determined by payroll in the manual local field instead of assuming the bonus alone triggers withholding.

Do Oregon UI, transit-district tax, or WBF reduce the bonus?

Oregon UI and TriMet or Lane payroll taxes are employer-paid. WBF is based on hours, not bonus dollars. They do not reduce employee take-home here; the employee Statewide Transit Tax is a separate 0.1% deduction.

Can this calculator gross up a promised net bonus?

Yes. Net-to-gross mode solves numerically across federal and Oregon methods, FICA and Paid Leave caps, statewide and local deductions, and fixed extra withholding.

Rates and formulas are based on primary official material checked July 21, 2026. The Statewide Transit Tax page was rechecked after Oregon voters rejected Measure 120 on May 19, 2026.
