New York bonus withholding FAQ

Are New York bonuses taxed at 11.70%?

New York State allows 11.70% withholding on separately paid supplemental wages when regular wages had income tax withheld. Federal, FICA, PFL, NYC, and Yonkers withholding may also apply.

When does New York City withholding apply?

NYC resident withholding is separate from New York State withholding. If selected, this calculator uses the 4.25% NYC supplemental rate for separate supplemental wages.

Why can aggregate withholding differ?

The aggregate method adds the bonus to regular wages for a payroll period, calculates withholding on the combined payment, then subtracts the withholding on regular wages alone.

Research sources

Rates and formulas in this calculator are based on official 2026 source material checked for this build.

Calculate bonuses inside the full payroll workflow

One-off bonus estimates are useful, but payroll teams still need approved earnings, correct tax settings, direct deposit, pay stubs, and audit-ready records in the same system.
